Compare Two PDF Files Online for Free
Find out what changed between two versions of a document without reading both line by line. Add the original and the revised PDF and see every difference marked on the pages.
How to compare PDFs
- Select the original PDF and the revised PDF, or drop both files on the page.
- Click Compare PDFs.
- Read the highlighted words side by side, and use Previous change and Next change to move through the differences.
- Switch to Overlay to check layout and image changes, or download the report.
Two ways to see the differences
Side by side matches the words of both files and highlights the ones that were removed or added. Overlay draws the two pages on top of each other and marks what appears in only one of them, which also works for scans, images and layout changes.
When should I compare PDFs?
- You received a revised contract and need to know what was changed.
- You want to check that a report was updated only where expected.
- You need to confirm that a new export matches the previous version.
- You are reviewing edits made by several people to the same document.
A PDF tool that respects your privacy
Contracts and reports are often confidential. This tool works inside your browser, so neither file is sent to a server.
Tips for better results
- Put the older file in the Original slot so removed and added words read correctly.
- Turn on Ignore capitalization if only the case of words changed.
- If the text in a file cannot be selected, use the Overlay view.
- Pages that moved because of added text are matched by words, so a page shift does not mark everything as changed.
Compare PDF is free, works on phones, tablets and computers, and needs no registration.
