What is a BMP file?
BMP, short for bitmap, is a simple image format that stores the colour of every pixel without compression. It is supported by very old software, Windows tools and many embedded systems.
Why is the BMP so much bigger?
BMP does not compress the image, so the file is much larger than a JPG, PNG or WebP of the same picture. That is normal for the format.
What happens to transparent areas?
BMP does not support transparency here, so see-through areas are filled with the background colour you choose, white by default.
