How do I compress a PDF?

Click Select PDF file, choose a compression level, then click Compress PDF. When it finishes, download the smaller file.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The compression runs entirely in your browser, so your document is never uploaded and nobody else can see it.

What is the difference between Light, Balanced and Strong?

Light and Balanced shrink the pictures inside the PDF and keep your text sharp and selectable. Strong turns every page into a picture, which gives the smallest file but removes selectable text.

Will compression reduce the quality?

Light keeps quality very close to the original. Balanced lowers picture quality slightly for a clearly smaller file. Strong lowers quality the most, so it is best for sharing or archiving rather than printing.

Why did the tool say my PDF cannot get smaller?

Some PDFs are already optimized or contain mostly text and vector graphics, which are already small. The tool only gives you a download when the result is really smaller than the original. Try the Strong level if the file still needs to shrink.

Can I still select and copy text after compressing?

Yes with Light and Balanced. With Strong, pages become pictures, so text can no longer be selected or searched. Run OCR PDF afterwards if you need searchable text again.

Can I compress a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Unlock the PDF first with the password, then compress it.

Is there a file size limit?

You can compress one PDF at a time, up to 100 MB. Large files take longer because everything is processed on your own device.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The tool works in modern browsers on phones, tablets and computers, though very large PDFs are faster on a computer.
