Free Online Base64 Decoder for Text, Images and Files
The DailyOnWeb Base64 decoder converts a Base64 string back into readable text or a downloadable file. Use it to inspect API responses, read email attachments, open a data URI, check token parts or turn a Base64 image back into a PNG or JPG. It is UTF-8 safe and runs entirely in your browser.
How to decode Base64
- Paste the Base64 string or a full data URI into the input box.
- Click Decode.
- If the result is text, copy it from the output box.
- If the result is a file, click Download file to save the image, PDF or other file.
Base64 to image, PDF and other files
When a string starts with data:image/png;base64, the tool reads the file type from the prefix and names the download correctly. Common types such as PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, SVG, PDF, MP3, MP4 and JSON are recognised. If you only have the raw string without a prefix, you still get a download, saved as a generic binary file that you can rename.
Troubleshooting invalid Base64
- Remove surrounding quotes, commas or labels such as
Basicthat are not part of the string. - Make sure the whole string was copied. A cut-off string cannot decode correctly.
- Spaces and line breaks are fine, they are removed automatically.
- If the output looks like random symbols, the data is binary or encrypted, not text.
- For a URL-safe string with hyphens and underscores, just paste it as it is.
Decode Base64 without sending data anywhere
Base64 strings often hold tokens, documents or customer data. Decoding here is done locally in your browser, so private content is never uploaded.

Need the opposite direction? Use the Base64 encoder. If the decoded text is JSON, clean it with the JSON formatter, and if it is XML use the XML formatter. For links and query strings try URL decode and URL encode. Decoded an image and want it smaller? Use the image compressor.
