Redact PDF

Click Select PDF file, then drag a box over anything you want to remove. You can also type a word in Find text to redact and click Find and mark to cover every match on every page. Click Redact PDF and download the file.

Yes. Every page that has a box is redrawn as an image with the black boxes painted into the pixels, then saved in place of the original page. The text underneath no longer exists in the file, so it cannot be copied, searched or recovered.

A shape placed on top of a page only covers the text. The text is still in the file, and anyone can select, copy or extract it. This tool replaces the page, so there is nothing left under the box.

They are copied unchanged, so their text stays selectable and searchable. Only pages that you redact become images.

Yes. Type a name, number or phrase, optionally turn on Match case, and click Find and mark. A box is added over each match on every page. Check each page before saving, and use Select to move, resize or delete a box.

Yes, by drawing boxes. Scanned pages contain pictures of text rather than real text, so searching cannot find words on them, but drawing a box covers the area and removes it from the image.

Yes. Use Undo and Redo, or press Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y. Select a box and press Delete to remove it. Your original file is never changed.

It can. Redacted pages are saved as images at 200 DPI, which is sharp enough to read but usually larger than text pages. Only the pages you redact are affected.

No. The PDF is handled in your browser and is never uploaded, so nobody else can see it.

The new file does not carry over the original title, author or other document properties. Check any form fields, comments and bookmarks on pages you keep, since those pages are copied unchanged.
