How to password protect a PDF
- Click Select PDF file, or drop your PDF on the page.
- Type a password, then type it again to confirm.
- Click Protect PDF and wait a few seconds.
- Download your protected PDF. It is saved with -protected added to the name.
Tips for a good PDF password
- Use at least 8 characters, and mix letters, numbers and symbols.
- Do not use names, birthdays or common words.
- Send the password through a different channel than the PDF, for example by phone or chat.
- We cannot recover a forgotten password, so keep it safe.
Your files stay private
Your PDF and password are sent over a secure connection, used only to protect the file, and deleted from the conversion service right after the download. We do not keep or share your documents or passwords.
