Are you a writer confused about your skills and expertise as a writer? Well, it is indeed difficult to know if you are a good writer or a bad one. However, you can still claim the title of an "author" if you have the same traits as some of the successful writers.

There is a lot to learn when it comes to writing. Every day comes with a new challenge that is perhaps even more challenging to overcome than the previous one. However, these challenges that every writer faces and overcomes are lessons that take you a step further to your success.

Coming back to being a good writer or a bad one, there is a very thin line between a good writer and a mediocre one. They are some characteristics that define the writer's Excellency in the work that they do every day of their lives.   

Every writer desires for a certain level of devotion, openness, and the spotlight—all of which is essential to make a name in the literary world. Here are the qualities that every writer must possess.

Writers are disciplines creatures. One reason for this claim is because they evaluate a situation, write, and then re-write the same piece of writing over and over again. A good writer is a passionate reader. It is actually the reading that inspires the writers to write. Their purpose and goal for reading are deeper than others as they try to understand the writer's plot and mindset for writing a novel or story. In other words, it helps them to understand the nuts and bolts of writing. So if you are an avid reader, chances are you are already aware of how writing works.

A trait that can set apart excellent writers from mediocre ones is their ability to be creative with their work. Think about some of the famous writers such as J.K. Rowling or Khalid Hosseini with amazing fiction novels. One reason why Harry Potter has become a bestseller is because of J.K. Rowling's ability to produce a magical world and creative characters. These weren't places that existed in the real world, but the writer's imagination that gave birth to a being such as Harry Potter and Voldemort. If you are a creative person, you can produce a work of art without difficulty.

Sleep deprivation is perhaps a trait for all creative people. Be it a writer, an animator, a designer, they all work continuously for hours without feeling overwhelmed or sleepy. Although it is important to sleep properly to create a masterpiece, there is a time when writers become so devoted to their work that they forget their surroundings and live in their imagination. As for other writers, the night is the perfect time to write.

Writers face a lot of rejections before getting their manuscripts published. Be it a children's books writer or a novelist; they need the patience to go through the phase of publishing their manuscript. Take J.K. Rowling; for example, she has been rejected many times before Harry Potter was published. But instead of losing hope, she believed and waited patiently to get her work. Children's books especially face a lot of rejections. Some may not match their publishing standards; some are too cluttered. One of the most common characteristics found in writers is that they are multitalented people. They are regularly going for self-publishing instead of the traditional publishing companies.
