The dilemma of Syrian refugees

1

Ever since the civil war started in Syria on March 15 2011, the situation of refugees went from bad to worse. They have gone through a time that is certainly considered the toughest of any refugees in the modern history. According to UNHCR, there have been 3 million refugees displaced to Jordan, Iraq, Turkey and Lebanon;,whereas about 6 million have also been displaced within the country. Out of the total population of the refugees, there are around 49.2% male and 50.8% female. The children from 0-4 age comprise about 17.1%. Whereas on the other hand 21.9% are 5-11 year old.

Then come the teens of age bracket 12-17 who comprise the second least of 12.8%. The youth and the elderly comprise the highest 45.3% (age 18-59). Whereas the least are the oldies aged 60+ comprising mere 2.9%

The infants and the older aged people are the hardest to handle out of the total refugees. They are the most sensitive group segments of the population, as they require much more care and affection and hence when a displacement occurs so certainly they are the most affected ones.

The total population living currently in different camps is 493,188. From April 2011 to February 2016 there have been 972,012 applications received for Asylum in Europe alone. In a nutshell 9 million people have left their homes since the outbreak of the civil war. Turkey is the largest host of these asylum seekers numbering 2.7 million, then is Lebanon hosts 1.5 m; followed by Jordan and Germany.

These nations have proved their hospitality and humanitarian motive. In North America, Canada has welcomed a large number of people to their soil. Iraq has shown a great sense of hospitality, a country which itself is in a civil war condition has welcomed 239,000 refugees, showing a high level of human gesture. Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan is the largest settlement of these refugees estimating at a total of nearly 83,000 number of refugees.

5 years have passed since this war started and still there is no concrete solution to it. President Bashar Al Assad is standing still on his motives and decisions, whereas the rebels are also not backing off. Every 25 minutes a Syrian is being killed in this battle;which has currently no end in the near future. Whereas in every 13 minutes an individual gets injured. So far 270,000 have left this world due to this war.

In the recent third round of talks in Geneva of UN envoy for Syria it was concluded that unless the US and Russia do not come in front for the peace talks so this issue can never be resolved. Meanwhile the Syrian government will have to come forward and take a positive step, keeping aside their ego and calling the rebels for table talks. These are the only two ways of ending this on going war and restricting it towards reaching to a much more worse stage, where there could be no looking back for both the rivals and their allies.
